HICKS, Thomas Lee II, formerly of Burton, age 53, died of cancer, August 28, 2022. Cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 23, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide Street, Fenton. Family will receive visitors during the hour prior to the memorial Mass. Final Interment with military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan, at a date to be announced later. Thomas was born Jess Steven Wagenschutz, August 27, 1969 in East Liverpool. Ohio. He was adopted by Thomas Lee Hicks in 1982. He graduated from Swartz Creek High School in 1987. Thom was always a kid at heart. He loved life, travel, and adventure, and had a talent and love for pencil sketching. His love for his dogs Meeko and Timber was unmatchable. Thom enjoyed motorcycles throughout his life. At 14, he joined the Sea Cadets, for the summer. His love of being in a ship on the water lead him to join the US Navy at age 18, where he served honorably for two years. Thom met Susan (Burger) Roberts (and her sons Reed and Adam) and they were married March 19, 1996. Together, they had two children, Monica Bernadette and Collin Christopher. Thom's career as a communications technician with Central Transport and Charter Communications made it possible for him to travel extensively with his family. To his many friends he leaves many cherished memories. Thom leaves behind: his wife, Susan; daughter, Monica; son, Collin; step-sons, Reed and Adam (Kim); two beautiful granddaughters, Alexis Roberts, and Addison Roberts. Mr. Hicks is loved and will also be greatly missed by his mother, Salli Jo Ecker; his sister, Shorey (Jim) Coleman; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his dad, Thomas Lee Hicks; grandparents, Doris Hommel and Harold Wagenshutz; and father-in-law Gary Burger. Thom, you will always be my gift from God. Our time was short, but my love for you will last forever.
