McAlister, Sarah Jane, of Flushing Michigan, age 85, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at home.  Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Oakdale Funeral Home, 2544 Tennessee Ave North, Parsons, Tennessee, Bro. Jerry Tubbs officiating.  Burial will be in Yellow Springs Cemetery.

Sarah was born in Holladay, Tennessee, February 24, 1938, one of the eight children of Cecil and Minnie (Miller) Mathis.  She met William R. McAlister in Caruthersville, Missouri and they were united in marriage August 14, 1955.  They moved to Flint, Michigan, where they had three children.

Sarah was a great "Southern" cook specializing in things like Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Okra, and Mexican Cornbread.  She also loved to sew.  There are still many of her "Masterpiece" Curtains hanging in in homes in several states.  Sarah was an immaculate housekeeper, and taught each of her grandchildren how to navigate "clean" trash and "dirty" trash.  She was much loved and will be missed terribly.

Surviving are:  2 sons, Gary (Kathi) McAlister of Flint, and Michael (Christine) McAlister of Flushing; daughter, Shelia (Michael) Shoens of Flushing;  8 grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Crystal, Tonya, Heather, James, Aaron, and Kaleigh;  9 great-grandchildren, (four boys)  Isaac, David, Joseph, and Easton, (and  five girls) Lilly, Ainsley, Addie, Emma, and Amelia.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
