CANFIELD, Robert Edward, of Flint Township, age 59.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Edward Canfield, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Robert departed this life May 12, 2025, in Genesee County, where he was born November 27, 1965. He faced unknown complications that ultimately led to his untimely death, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Robert was the cherished son of Nancy Walsh and Robert Canfield, who preceded him in death along with his beloved grandparents, Maxine Paulsgrove Thompson and his uncle, Jim Atkins. His family was paramount to him, and he carried their love and teachings throughout his life. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristin Canfield and LeAnne Canfield, both of whom he adored deeply. His four grandchildren, Jackson Miller, Jocelynn Miller, Noah Davis, and Parker Davis, brought immense joy to his life, and he relished every moment spent with them.
Throughout his life, Robert cherished close ties with his extended family. His uncle Paul Atkins & Cathy Atkins supported him through thick and thin, standing by his side as he navigated life's challenges. Paul, who was only nine years older than Robert, shared a bond that was both special and unique, serving as a mentor and friend throughout Robert's journey. A proud veteran, Robert joined the military at the young age of 17 in the early '80s, an experience he considered one of his greatest accomplishments. He carried the lessons of discipline and camaraderie learned in his service into every aspect of his life.
Robert was not only known for his service but also for his passion for cooking. He dedicated much of his career to being a chef, after the military delighting in creating diverse eating experiences for others. His love for food was matched only by his unique sense of style and humor; he had an incredible ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Educated in the schools of Genesee County, Robert graduated from high school before embarking on his military career. His love for adventure extended beyond the culinary world; he found great joy in the ocean, often exploring its shores with his metal detector.
Robert's life will be honored with a funeral service 4:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2025 at Plumb Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N Ballenger Hwy, Flint, Township, Rev. Fr. Georges Bidzogo officiating . Cremation will follow. Final interment will occur 1:30 P.M., Friday, August 1, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Robert will lie is state at the funeral home where friends may visit 10:00 A.M. until the time of service Friday. The family asks that any contibutions in Robert's memory be directed to a family memorial fund. The family greatly appreciate the attentive care provided by the EMS and medical examiner during this difficult time.
As we remember Robert, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and love for family. He is deeply missed already, and though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. We love you, Robert, and thank you for the light you brought into our lives.
