LOONEY, Ralph Holland, Sr., of Cadillac, formerly of Detroit, age 83, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, Pastor Don McCombs officiating. Burial will occur later at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Mr. Looney will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township, where friends may call Noon-8PM Thursday. Ralph was born in Vansant, Virginia, September 26, 1932, the son of Elijah and Edna (Matney) Looney.
Ralph was born Sept. 26, 1932 on Firetower Mountain in Vansant, Virginia, the son of Elijah Henry and Edna (Matney) Looney. He was third of 13 children. He was inducted into the United States Army, February 12, 1953, serving his country during the Korean war. He married Astrid Amelia Smith, November 4, 1956. He moved to Flint, Michigan in 1956, where he had 5 children. Mr. Looney retired in 1998 after 30 years with the Chrysler Corporation. Surviving are: 5 children, Ava Looney (Allen) Gilliam, Ralph (Amber) Looney, Jr., Selwyn (Diana) Looney, Valerie Looney, and Wesley Looney; 11 grandchildren, Alaina Gilliam (Floyd) Taber, Nicholas (Reesa) Looney, David (Kristina) Bobrowski, Amelie Gilliam (Jason) Booth, Devin Looney, Alisha Schubert (Justin) Briggs, Amanda Looney, Adam Looney, Austin Schubert, Sofi Bishop, and Landon Bishop; 11 great grandchildren, Trevor Allen Booth, Fabienne Andre', Caleb John Taber, Jacob Lee Booth, Andrew Jason Booth, Charity Rose Taber, Arieonna Noelle Looney, Malakhi Joseph Looney, Brylee Jean Bobrowski, Graycie Julianna Looney, and Kaiden Blaine Briggs; eldest brother, Edison Looney; and sisters, Golda, Rosa, Susie, Ida Mae, Viola, and Dorothy. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Rodger, Ray, and Charlie; and by his sister, Frankie.
