Obituary

Nancy A Bush was born in Dayton, Ohio to Leon R and Mary F Dickson on March 26, 1928. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Nancy A Williams, and she was the oldest of 5 children. The young family moved from Ohio to Michigan in the early 1930s.

Nancy had an unending love for God. She believed God when he said, "You take one step, and I will take two." He was with her for her entire life.

Nancy was a lifelong member of The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served on several auxiliaries and committees including The Mothers Board, The Missionary Society, General Mission, Kitchen Committee, Hospitality Committee, Shiloh's Mass Choir, Senior Choir, and Ringo Circle #1.

She was a member of International F. & A.M. Masons and Order of Eastern Star, Inc. She was also a delegate to the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., and a member of Great Lakes Baptist District Association. She attended meetings all over the country and had a great time!

Early on, Nancy proved to be a curious and intelligent child. She was strong-willed and believed there was nothing she could not do. As a young adult, she decided to build her own house. She saved her money, bought the land, and commissioned a builder. Now, how many young black women do you know who did what Nancy did in that time of history?

Nancy attended Flint Public Schools. During her later teen years, she lived with and worked for a wonderful family in the East Village neighborhood across from Mott Community College. While living with this family, she attended and graduated from Flint Central High School.

Although her mom planned for her to become a teacher, after a short stint at Flint Junior College and a few teaching jobs, Nancy went on to work for General Motors. It was a bumpy start. She was hired and laid off several times before she was hired permanently. Nancy was employed by the car king, General Motors, for 35 years. She retired as a Floor Supervisor from AC Spark Plug, a division of GM.

Nancy loved cuddling with Smoke, Colin's dog. Her favorite soap operas included the ABC line-up of All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. She enjoyed many hobbies: flower gardening, shopping, traveling, dancing, singing gospel songs, word find puzzles, reading the bible, and watching her all time favorite show Judge Judy. She liked all the hoopla.

She was recognized numerous times over the years for volunteering at and her contributions to the Brennan Senior Center. Brennan was her home away from home.

Nancy was a member of The Red Hat Society, which fit her so very well since red was and always will be her favorite color. Rocking that red until the very end, you go girl!

Nancy leaves to cherish her memory beloved and faithful daughter Mona "Lisa", son Theodrick Davis, daughter Mary Young, sisters Eleanor Dickson and Goldie Dickson, 2 granddaughters, 9 grandsons, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends; lifelong friend Evelyn Wright, new and cherished friend Mary Parrish, and amazing friend and neighbor Deborah Holmes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Ora Norris, brother Leon Dickson, and sister Elizabeth Dickson.

Special thanks to Sharyse Bush and Ethan Bush for assisting with preparations, Rena for taking great care of mom, and Colin Bush for always being there for and taking care of his grandma.
