Mary Elizabeth Vanluven

VANLUVEN, Mary Elizabeth (née Davis), of Flint, Michigan, age 60, passed away August 28, 2026, at her home.

Mary was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, January 21, 1966 and graduated from Genesee High School. As a young married woman, her life took her as far as the Philippines and later Washington State. While living in Washington, she learned she was expecting twins and returned home to Michigan to be near her family as she began raising a family of her own.

Mary raised three children, Matthew Jones, Patrick Jones, and Megan Vanluven. She held her children in high esteem, taking great pride in the people they became, and wishing the best for them in the lives they pursued. Through Patrick, Mary had two granddaughters, Lila and Paige Jones.

Creativity was woven throughout Mary's life. Her mother and aunt's flower shop was a gathering place for the family, where Mary often brought her children to visit, help out, and spend time among flowers and family. At home, her talents showed in beautifully embroidered pieces and the enthusiasm she brought to the holidays, from decorating to making hard candy and elaborate sugar cookies with her children. She was also an accomplished pianist who delighted in playing for family and friends.

Mary had an undeniable presence. Striking and charismatic, she possessed a confidence and charm that drew people to her—and she knew it. She lived with an intensity distinctly her own, bringing color and complexity to a life that was never ordinary.

In her later years, Mary found companionship in her beloved dog, Bam-Bam. Together they became familiar faces around her apartment community, where neighbors came to know Mary with her sidekick not far looking for a treat.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Diane, and father, Jay. She is survived by her father, Max; her siblings, David, Laurel, Kirsten, Rachel, and Christopher; her children, Matthew, Patrick, and Megan; her granddaughters, Lila and Paige; and the extended family and friends who knew her throughout the many chapters of her life.
