LeRoy Strawbridge Zelley III of Flint, age 77, died Wednesday August 10, 2016 at Hurley Hospital after a battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Service and Mass will be held 11 am on Friday, August 19, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 E Bristol Rd, Burton, MI. Father Steven Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 am at the Church until the time of the service.
Roy was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on February 28, 1939. After attending Holy Redeemer School and graduating from St. Agnes School in 1957, Roy attended Aquinas College in Windsor, Canada. He retired as a police officer from the Flint Police Department.
Roy was born to LeRoy Strawbridge Zelley II and Margaret Mary (Gallagher) Zelley. Roy is survived by three daughters, Trisha O'Connor, Kelly (Mike) Sommers, Heather O'Connor and two granddaughters, brothers Mike (Lana) Zelley, Joe (Beth) Zelley, his beloved partner of 35 years Wanda Drinkwine and her family Dale Drinkwine, Tina (Patrick) Wooley and children Clarissa and Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Glenn.
Roy was a servant at heart from his childhood years as a boy scout to his years of service as a Flint Police Officer. Roy loved race cars and won several national drag racing events and championships. Roy was loved by and thankful for the Drinkwine family who loved and supported him through the past 35 years of his life and illness.
