Obituary

EREMIA, Joseph Anthony, Jr., of Flint, age 78, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at his residence.  Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 10, 2020 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Anthony Smela officiating.  Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Mr. Eremia will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home where family will receive friends 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Sunday, and at the church  from 10 AM until the time of service Monday.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, face coverings and social distancing are required.   Joseph was born in Drayton Plains, Michigan, September 13, 1941, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Meissner) Eremia.  He grew up in Sebewaing.  In 1985 he married the love of his life, Charlotte Josephine Streich and they shared many happy years together, traveling, gardening, grilling, and working on projects together.  They were always together and they loved to make each other laugh.  Joe loved sports, including Michigan Football, Big Ten Basketball, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Red Wings.  He was a hard worker as a proud member of UAW Local 659 at GM Truck and Bus Metal Fabricating Plant until his retirement.  Joe was an especially talented wood worker and crafted many family heirlooms for his children and grandchildren.  He and Charlotte loved animals and were avid animal rescue advocates.  He loved the Lord and was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He cherished his wife, Charlotte and his 4 daughters, Christine Walker, Rene (Michael) Huey, Darla (Dean) Herbers, and Kimberly Anderson.  He was also loved dearly by Charlotte's 7 children, Jessie, David, Cassandra, Roxanne, Glen, and William Gilmore, and Wendy Adasiak.  Together Joe and Char had 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother, John Eremia, and his sister, Betty Mallary.  Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte, and brother David Eremia.
