John Arthur
Rowley
Jul 16, 1954 — Jan 7, 2025
Swartz Creek
ROWLEY, John Arthur, affectionately known as J.R., of Swartz Creek, formerly of Flushing, age 70, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at McLaren Flint Hospital.
Born July 16, 1954, John lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and love. John leaves behind his beloved best friend and furry companion, Chico, who brought him joy and comfort in his later years. He is survived by his children: Jackie (Morris) Cummings, Karen (Rob) Bell, Jessica (Mike) Franz, Heather Southern, and Johnathon Rowley; and his cherished grandchildren: Leta, Cierra, Carson, Caden, Robert (Stephanee), Seth, Austin, Keith, Alyssa, and Naomi.
John will also be deeply missed by his siblings: Stephen (Debbie) Rowley, Colleen (Don) Mathis, Mark (Theresa) Rowley, Donald Rowley, and Patrick (Dave) Rowley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Carolyn Rowley, and his brother, Michael Rowley.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, John served his country with honor from 1975 to 1977. His commitment to service was a cornerstone of his identity. John was a master carpenter whose skill and artistry could transform wood into beautiful creations. He found joy in building with his hands, taking long walks with Chico, and spending time fishing with his son Johnathon. Throughout his life, John called many places home, including Michigan, Alaska, Kansas, Arizona, Florida, and California, leaving a trail of cherished memories and friendships in each state.
Known for his signature bear hugs and uplifting spirit, John had a saying for everyone he met: "Keep your smile out of your pocket." His warmth and humor were as much a part of him as his talents and achievements.
