Born March 5, 1962 at the Army Hospital in Fort Rucker, Alabama the son of Jay Barnes and Ruth (Steele) Cole, Jay attended Bendle High school where he played the trumpet in the concert & marching band, ran cross country and track, and did the pole vault. He graduated in 1980.
One of his first jobs was at the Speakeasy in Flushing. That is where his love for cooking started.
He drove for J.B. Hunt as an over the road truck driver for a short time but decided he needed to be home with Madeline who was two at the time. He worked as a mechanic for the rest of his career and was an ASE certified mechanic.
He loved riding motorcycles since his dad bought him his first minibike when he was little. He also loved watching and going to baseball games, especially the Detroit Tigers. He loved watching hockey, and NASCAR back in the day. He loved his pet Chihuahuas, loved to go camping, and loved spending time with his brother. He worked alongside his brother Rodney at Rod’s Creek Auto until he retired. He loved going to see his favorite Rock and Roll Bands back in the 80's and still listened until the day he died.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Cole; his two children, Madeline (Nathan) Boutwell and Jay “Joey” (Alayna Wikle) Cole; stepson, Russell Conley; his brother, Rodney (Stephanie) Cole; his sister, Melanie (Jeff) Parker; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.
