Obituary

EDWARDS, James Jr,, of Flint, Michigan, age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his residence.  Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township.  Mr. Edwards was born in Philipp, Mississippi on September 30, 1930. As a child he supported his family's farm by tending to the pigs and chickens before going to school. James Edwards Jr. came to Flint, Michigan in 1947 with his family from Charleston, Mississippi because of the employment opportunities with General Motors. The move paid off and he obtained employment as a supervisor for Buick City for many years.  James served in the Korean War and was considered one of the best and brightest in his platoon. He served his country as a United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper that was highly skilled in fieldcraft and marksmanship. During his military service, James, had the opportunity to travel the world and visited Cuba and other Caribbean Islands.  He was an avid golfer and would often travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to play there. He played softball, enjoyed bowling and old TV shows and movies. James enjoyed the musical group The Temptations and cherished his childhood friendship with blues guitarist B.B. King.  He especially enjoyed his conversations and camaraderie with the Breakfast Club at the McDonald's on Dort Hwy.  James Edwards Jr. is survived by son, LaMarr Edwards and daughter, Patrice Edwards;  granddaughters, Qiana Edwards-Mazique and Ayanna Hudson; great grandson, Quest Mazique V; nieces, Brenda Edwards, Maxine Koger, Charlotte Murphy, and a host family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his loving parents: James Edwards Sr. and Frances Edwards (Watson); Lorean Edwards (sister); Melvin Edwards (brother); Elvin Edwards (brother); William Edwards (brother); Fannie Mae Edwards (sister);  Regina Edwards (daughter); Ruth M. Edwards (former spouse); and Marcus Edwards (grandson).
