ROWLEY, Chief Donald S., of Flint Township, age 85, died Monday, November 5, 2018  at his residence.  Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, Rev. Sarah LaRose Nettell officiating.  Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Chief Rowley will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township, where friends may call 6-8 PM Wednesday and 10 AM - 8 PM Thursday.  Don was born in Flint, March 12, 1933, the son of Amsden and Meta (Rothermel) Rowley.  Don served in the United States Army from 1951-1952 during the Korean War and in the United States Air Force from 1953 - 1957.  He married Carolyn August 29, 1958. She preceded him in death in 2005.   In 1958 he began his career as an on-call firefighter in Flint Township, becoming full time in 1961.  From 1982 until his retirement in  1994 he served as chief of the Flint Township Fire Department.  He continued to serve as a member of the Flint Township Planning Commission until just this past summer.  He loved to hunt and fish and travel to Alaska and Florida.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending his children's and grandchildren's sports events.  He had also been a wrestling coach for the Flushing Raider Wrestling Club.  Surviving are:  daughter, Colleen Rowley (Donald) Mathis;  sons, Stephen (Debbie) Rowley, Michael Rowley, John Rowley, Mark (Theresa) Rowley, Donald (Diane) Rowley, Patrick (Julie) Rowley all of Flushing and Jeff (Cheryl) Damon of Wasilla, Alaska;  26 grandchildren;  49 great grandchildren;  many nieces and nephews.
