GROVES, Dennis Leroy (Gumby), formerly of Burton, age 51, died Monday, August 26, 2019 in Toledo, Ohio, the result of a tragic accident.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, Rev. Sarah LaRose - Nettell officiating.  Dennis will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township, where friends may visit 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Thursday and from 10:00 AM until the time of service Friday.  Dennis was born in Flint, May 16, 1968, the son of Darwin L, II and Kristine (Myers) Groves.  He was a 1987 graduate of Atherton High School.  He was a very talented painter and had spent the last few years as an over-the-road trucker.  Dennis enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hitting the road with his father and visiting friends on the social circuit.  He was a free spirit who enjoyed a good laugh and was fiercely proud of his family.  "Uncle Dennis" doted on his nieces and nephews and valued his family connections more than anything.  Surviving are:  father, Darwin L. Groves, II; 4 brothers, Shawn J. Groves of Flint, David (Serene) Kuta of Sacramento, California, Charlie VanLandegham of Davison, and Brandon (Misty) Adams of Apex, North Carolina; 4 sisters, Jeannie (Ed) Bone of Clio, Cathy Atkins of Sarasota, Florida, Tammy (Gary) Ray of Burton, and Bridgett Groves - Ives of Grand Blanc; special cousin, Andrea Lumm; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kristine (Chrissy) Myers and his grandparents, Elizabeth and Cecil Crossnoe and Darwin L. Groves, Sr.
