GOODWIN, David Edward, of Flushing, age 73, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Thursday at United in Christ Lutheran Church, G-6330 Corunna Rd., Pastor Steven Stalhut officiating. Burial will follow in Old Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Goodwin will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Towship, where friends may call 12-3 PM and 5-8 PM Wednesday; and at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of service Thursday. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contributions to United in Christ Church, pALS of Michigan, or Genesee County Humane Society. David was born in Flint, March 31, 1942, the son of John D. and Evelyn I. (Oliver) Goodwin. He was graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1960, from Flint Junior College in 1963, and from Western Michigan University in 1965. He taught at Longfellow Junior High School from 1966-1970. He married Janet Beach, April 15, 1967 at St. Matthews Church in Flint. Mr. Goodwin worked as a communications consultant at Michigan Bell and its successor Ameritech from 1973-1993. He was employed at the Pierson Road Meijer store from 1996-2006. He loved the game of golf, home brewing, and home improvements. He was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church. Surviving are wife, Janet Goodwin; 2 daughters, Jennifer Goodwin of Flushing and Dina (Matt) Goodwin Walters of Lansing; sister-in-law, Barbara Goodhue; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Jesse) Goodwin Trevino, Robert Hurley, Ben Hamper, Bob Hamper, Matt Hamper, Brian Hamper, Mark Hamper, Monica Broughton, Brenda Kleinedler, and Bridget Hamper; cousin and close friend Louis Gancsos. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Hurley, brothers, John and Michael Goodwin, sister-in-law, Carrie Beach, and nephew, Patrick Hurley. Online tributes at plumbsmithfh.com
