Carlyon, Christie Ann, of Flushing, age 69, died quietly, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at her residence, surrounded by her family and pets. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Flushing. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to The American Cancer Society or The Genesee County Humane Society. She was born September 6th, 1947, the daughter of Robert "Doc" & Lillian Colvin. She loved the simple joys of life; cooking for her family, working in the garden, a quiet day fishing on Cooke Pond, animals (big and small), a nice glass of wine on the porch, and Emmy Lou Harris on the radio. She was devoted to her family and most of all her husband of 47 years, Bob. After her graduation from West Bloomfield High School in 1965, she traveled and backpacked across Europe before attending Hillsdale College and Oakland University. After graduating she became an elementary school teacher, settling in Cohoctah to raise her family in the country on a small farm with her husband, whom she met while at Oakland University in 1967. They married in 1969. They shared a special love for their family, great food, traditional music and culture. As a Mom she seemed to always be in the kitchen and could often be found cooking fancy meals for most of the hungry boys in the neighborhood (Mike Chila, Steve Huss, Smith Huff, Tom Gordon, Loren Bacon and Doug Veiner). To her 6 grandchildren, she was simply 'Nana' and the center of our family. She enjoyed playing games and dress-up and loved to make special snacks and always had a sippy-cup for you no matter what grade you were in. She hated to be the center of attention nearly as much as she hated heights and she taught all those around her what love & kindness looked like and that a good life is like a good recipe- keep good friends and good ingredients on-hand and put your heart into all that you do. She is survived by her husband: George Robert "Bob" Carlyon, Brother: David (Janice) Colvin, Sons: Zeke (Stephanie) Carlyon and Mike (Sarah) Carlyon and grandchildren: Alyxandra, Xachary, Drake, Montgomery, Isabel and Lily and long time friend Carol Chila. To all those who ever knew her she was simply the best there was.
