Flint Township
SIES, Calvin 'Cal," a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away June 23, 2024, at the age of 75. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Cal was the cherished son of Elmer and Betty Sies. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1966 and spent the majority of his life in his family home, a place filled with cherished memories and the constant hum of engines.
Cal was the devoted husband of Rose Sies for 39 incredible years, just shy of their 40th wedding anniversary September 15th.. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure.
He is survived by his children: Scott Sies, along with his children, Sarah and Sam, and Linsey Paris and her husband, Joshua, with their daughters, Ellie and Alyvia. Cal is now reunited with his son, Brady Sies, who is survived by his daughter McKenzie Menard, and his honorary son, Eron Disberry. He also leaves behind his brother, Ken Sies, and his wife Sonja, and his sister, Judy Frost, and her husband Mike. His extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who became family.
Cal had a diverse and dedicated career, working for the City of Flint Water Department until his retirement. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed a career in car sales and contributed to the Flint Schools and the Sloan Museum.
A man of many passions, Cal was especially fond of cars, drag racing, motorcycles, and speed boats. His 1992 Heritage Softail Harley Davidson was one of his most cherished possessions. He loved collecting firearms, knives, and anything related. Known for his knack for tinkering in the garage or barn, he always had whatever anyone needed. His hobbies also included camping, boating, and family cookouts.
Cal's heart was as big as his love for fun. He loved telling stories, often keeping friends and family at the door for hours with his tales. Known for his infectious enthusiasm, he always advised his kids, "No hot rodding!" even though he was the king of it. Friends of his children knew they'd have to pick up sticks before he could mow – a small price to pay for the joy of his company and the reward of cheese and crackers.
Despite facing numerous health challenges, Cal's indomitable spirit gave him an additional six months of cherished life after overcoming significant medical hurdles. His resilience and love for life were inspirational to all who knew him.
He moved back into his childhood family home in the 80s and remained a beloved figure on his small dirt road for decades. He adored his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. His love extended to all living creatures, including his "best ole kitty, Dan." Cal always gave the kids pony rides on Mr. Ed, a staple in the family's backyard.
Join us in celebrating the life of Cal Sies 6:00 P.M., Thursday, June 27, at his favorite spot, Luigi's, 2132 Davison Rd., Flint.. As Cal would always say, "Have you ever had Luigi's pizza?
