Mr. Alfonso Rubin Jr
. "Junebug", as affectionately called by family, departed this earth on Sunday July 15, 2018 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 44.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 Martin Luther King Avenue, Flint, Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Alfonso was born August 8, 1973 in Flint, Michigan to the union of Rev. Alfonso and Virginia Rubin. Alfonso accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor H.B. Dixson, and remained active in the church for many years. Alfonso graduated from Beecher "Buc Town" High School in 1991. He attended the University of Michigan-Flint and later decided to pursue a career in the United States Marine Corps. While actively serving over 10 years he received multiple ribbons and badges including, National Defense Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Meritorious Unit Commendation. Alfonso met and married his Junior High Sweetheart Nicole and to that union was born Zachariah Rubin. Later in life, he met Florencia Torres and to that union was born his one and only daughter, Anastasia Rubin. He was proud to have fathered a son and daughter and loved how smart and charismatic they became. Alfonso had an infectious laugh, enjoyed watching football, basketball (Go Blue!) and listening to Tupac.
Alfonso's memory lives on with: children, Zachariah Rubin, Anastasia Rubin; parents, Alfonso Rubin, Virginia Rubin; sister, Sheila Rubin; nephew, Terry Lewis, Celine Cartwright; niece, Ashley Lewis, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Alfonso was preceded in death by: brother, Greenwood Lewis; grandfather, Ernest Rubin; grandmothers, Nettie Rubin, Ether Lacy; uncles, Daniel Rubin, Liamon Rubin, Rev. Isaac Lacy, Roosevelt Lacy, Curtis Lockett, and Andrew Tyler
The family would like to express special thanks to Sparrow Hospital, Dialysis Center, Transportation Guy, Pastor Rodney Ellison, and Mt. Zion M.B. Church family.
